Gerhard Heinrich Barghahn was born July 20, 1923 on the farm near Staplehurst, Nebraska to John Henry and Margaretha J. (Henning) Barghahn and passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 9 months, 29 days. Gerhard was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church - Staplehurst and attended Zion Parochial School. He was a farmer and lived his entire life on the farm homesteaded by his grandfather, Heinrich Barghahn. Gerhard enjoyed traveling and playing cards at the local coffee shop and especially enjoyed fishing. He was a former member of the Staplehurst Gun Club and the Staplehurst Volunteer Fire Department and was also a former board member of the Staplehurst Cooperative. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and John W. Luethke; brother-in-law, Ernest Fritz; niece, Margaret Colley and nephew, Ed Luethke. Gerhard is survived by his sister, Dorothea Fritz of Seward and five generations of nieces and nephews. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Gerhard. |
