Gertrude J. Horner was born on March 8, 1915 in Cairo, Nebraska to Herman and Augusta (Reier) Wagenknecht and passed away on June 27, 2017, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 102 years 3 months and 19 days. She spent her childhood on a farm near Friend, Nebraska. Gertie was united in marriage to George Hansen on October 6, 1932 until August of 1945. She later married Arthur Horner on October 26, 1946.
Gertie worked for Dr. Zimmer in Friend for years, she also worked at FormFit in Crete, Southeast Community College in Milford, Milford Rest Home, Centennial School and Blue Valley Community Action in Seward. Gertie was a long time member of the Seward United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur Horner, three brothers, Walter, Wilber and Werner Wagenkneckt and three sisters, Elsie Miller, Alma Howe, and Ruth Villwock.
Gertie is survived by her son, Bob Hansen and daughter, Dee Mehrens both of Lincoln. Six grandchildren, Tim Hansen of What Cheer, IA; Sherryl and Will Yokel of Friend, NE; Doug Hansen of Newton, IA; Lee and Joel Houfek of Waterloo, NE; Tami Kolar of Lincoln, NE; Vance and Dixie Mehrens of Edmond, OK; 19 great grandchildren, 24 great, great grandchildren, one great, great, great grandchild, sister-in-law Peggy Wagenknecht of Mt. Ayr, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
