Gladys Deloris Ost was born near Staplehurst on June 23, 1924, to Claus Henry Peter and Hulda Marie (Schroeder) Ahrens and passed away in Seward on October 25, 2018, at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 2 days. She was baptized into the Christian faith on July 13, 1924, and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, rural Staplehurst.
On January 12, 1947, she married David E. Ost at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. They made their home in Seward where Gladys was employed by Lucile Duerr and began her career as a beautician for 25 years. She later worked at Memorial Health Care in the business office for 22 years until her retirement in 1991. Gladys and David wanted to start a family, after trying for many years the couple adopted three siblings through Lutheran Family Services. It was very important to Gladys and David that the children knew about their Native American heritage and even participated in some of their rituals. Gladys was an avid golfer for many years, a bridge player, quilter, avid bowler and enjoyed the many friends she made in all the groups.
Gladys was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, St. John Ladies Aid, life member of the Seward V.F.W. Auxiliary #4755, Reach to Recovery Volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Nica Volunteer and a former member of the Seward Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David in 2005; great grandson, Trapper Magee; sisters, Myrtle Janet Ahrens, LaVerne Dougherty; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Len and Maryanna Schlueter, Maynard and Wilda Ost, Frank and Lora Ost.
Gladys is survived by her three children, Marvin "Marty" and wife Dorothy Ost, Escondido, CA, Gloria and husband Otto Wuthrich, Pflugerville, TX, Rose Marie LaRoche, Springfield, SD; nine grandchildren, Terry Stutzman, Dawn Wuthrich, Clay and wife Cassie Ost, Jamie and Kemp Goode, Joshua Ost, Dina Ost, Kevin Ellis, Lisa and husband Doug Magee, Misty and husband Jeff Staples; 11 great grandchildren: Kyler Nolan, Brayden Nolan, Kaiya Goode, Camryn Goode, Sienna Goode, Jordan Goode, Cetan Ellis, Isabella Magee, Elizebeth Staples, Katlyn Magee and Morgan Ost; nieces, nephews, cousins; close friends, Jean Kinnamon and Jean Kolterman, and a host of other friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Gladys.
