In Loving Memory Of Gladys A. Phillips Gladys Agnes (Goff) Phillips was born the only child to Merle and Agnes Goff of rural Manhattan, Kansas on November 24, 1925. She passed away on April 21, 2008 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 4 months, 27 days. Gladys attended Keats School and graduated from Manhattan High School and later Kansas State University. On May 27, 1947 Gladys was united in marriage to Curtis William Phillips in Manhattan. To this happy union were born two sons, Ted and Robin. In 1957, in spite of a valiant effort by the local communities and farmers, Tuttle Creek Dam was built on the Big Blue River, flooding farms and towns. The Phillips' relocated their dairy herd and families to the Beaver Crossing area in Nebraska. Curtis and Gladys loved to travel, visiting all 50 states for pleasure and delivering their purebred stock. Gladys was an active promoter of dairy products and was an expert photographer having shared her photos of Nebraska's beauty in programs and having photos published in books about Nebraska. Gladys was active in many organizations including Church Women United, her local United Church of Christ and their women's group; Nebraska Dairy Women, International and Nebraska Flying Farmers and Ranchers. In 2002, Gladys received the Community Service Award at the Seward 4th of July Celebration. She was crowned Nebraska's Flying Farmer Queen in 1981 and was the International Flying Farmer Woman of the Year in 1994. Gladys was avidly interested in everything and everybody and leaves a large circle of friends in addition to her family. She is survived by her husband, Curtis; sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Elaine Phillips of Beaver Crossing and Robin and Connie Phillips of Goehner; grandchildren, Jeramy and wife Janae, Chad and wife Julie, Lane and wife Amanda, Jennifer, Adele and Eliot and five great-grandchildren, Jarod, Jakob, Sabryn, Cooper, and Jagger. Additional survivors are Curtis's brothers and sisters and their spouses, Ruth Prejean, LaFayette, LA, Harlan and Eleanor Phillips, Mayetta, KS, Earl Phillips, Beaver Crossing, Norma and Kenneth Casford, Whittier, CA and Alan and Donna Phillips, Olsburg, KS and a host of friends. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Agnes Goff and sister-in-law, Mary Phillips. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Gladys. |
