Gladys Marie (Kovar) Roebke was born on December 20, 1934, near Garland, Nebraska to Cyrill and Bessie (Hromas) Kovar and passed away on October 24, 2022, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 4 days surrounded by her family. Gladys attended school in Garland and graduated with the Class of 1952.
Gladys was united in marriage to Lloyd Roebke on April 23, 1955, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward, Nebraska. She attended Southeast Community College and graduated from the LPN program in 1973. Gladys was employed at Seward Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She was also certified in social work. After Lloyd's passing, she returned to work at the Seward clinic from 1998-2011.
Gladys was a member of the Memorial Health Care Systems Auxiliary and served as president for three years. She also served as a Hospice volunteer. Gladys was a recipient of the Caring Kind Award from the Nebraska Association of Health Systems and the ABLE Award in recognition of outstanding achievements throughout her career at Memorial Health Care Systems.
Gladys and Lloyd lived in Garland most of their married life. They were avid campers and were camp hosts in many campgrounds in Nebraska, South Dakota, Colorado, and Kansas. Gladys loved to sew, crochet, knit, canning and tend to her flower gardens. She loved spending time with her family, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, PCCW, lector and served on the Parish Council for four years.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Roebke; young daughter, Susan Kay; parents, Cyrill and Bessie Kovar; brothers, Lawrence and Gary Kovar; sisters-in-law, Eunice and Annabelle Kovar.
Survivors cherishing her memory include her four awesome daughters and their spouses, Nancy (Jerry) Schulz, Lincoln, Linda (Bill) Molthan, Seward, Patricia (Robert) Gray, Seward, Kathleen (Melvin) Densberger, Malcolm; 10 grandchildren, Rodney (Jessica) Schulz, Melissa (Travis) Bell, Jeremie (Jessica) Schulz, Ryan (Kristen Sinch) Hinrichs, Ashley (John) Siebert, Mitchell (Alanna Everman) Hinrichs, Michael (Lindsay) Densberger, Jessica (Matthew) Andrews, Haley (Brice) Tyrrell, MacKenzie Gray; great-grandchildren, Karter and Jensen Schulz, Mika Chlupacek, Gracie and Avery Schulz, Ayden and Braylon Siebert, Meah, Wyatt and Baylor Andrews; five brothers, Victor, Cyrill (Ramona Svoboda), Daniel (Delta), Ernie (Jeanne Frentz), and David (Jean) Kovar; sister, Betsy (Chuck) Fletcher; sisters-in-law, Judy and Vi Kovar; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Gladys.
