Gladys Opal (Huffman) Smetter was born September 1, 1915 in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska to Clarence Rene and Minnie (Tschudy) Huffman and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on April 13, 2009 at the age of 93 years, 7 months, 12 days. Gladys was a graduate of Beaver Crossing High School. On December 21, 1937, Gladys was united in marriage to Frank Benjamin Smetter in Wilber, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Gladys was employed at the Seward Egg Plant and sorted corn in later years. She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Goehner, the Order of Eastern Star and a bridge group. Following Franks death in 2000, Gladys moved to Heartland Park where she resided until 2007 when she moved to Sundermann Home, now Ridgewood East. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence R. and Minnie Huffman; her husband, Frank B. Smetter; and her sons, Marion Smetter and Terry Smetter. Gladys is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sandy Smetter of Doniphan; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Stan Litty of Seward; 7 grandsons, 5 granddaughters; 2 step granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rex Smetter of Goehner; sisters-in-law, Mabel Minzel of Beatrice and Hazel Miller of Lincoln; special nieces, Sue Smetter and Sheryl Smetter; special nephews, Scott and his wife, Pat Smetter and Sam and his wife, Shelly Smetter; other nieces and nephews; relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Gladys. |
