Harriet LaVerne Poe was born August 23, 1911 in Seward County, Nebraska to Charles and Jennie (Graham) Lauer and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on February 23, 2009 at the age of 97 years, 6 months. On March 1, 1933, Harriet was united in marriage to Howard William Poe. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Donna, Robert, William and Sharon. The family farmed southwest of Surprise. Howard passed away in 1970 and Harriet moved to Seward in 1971. She attended the United Methodist Church in Surprise and in Seward. She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, loved to play bridge and crocheted over 600 afghans and 100 hats which is always gave away. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jennie Lauer; her husband, Howard Poe; her sister, Hazel Mitchell and her brother, Harold Lauer. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Donna Way of Mesa, AZ; her sons, Robert Poe of Columbus and William Poe of Cheyenne, WY; and her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dave Zeilinger of Friend; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
