Henrietta Benes was born on October 25, 1927, on the family farm near Bee to Frank and Rosina (Langbauer) Jirovsky and passed away on March 23, 2015, in Lincoln at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 26 days. She grew up on the family farm and attended Romine Country School District #68. Henrietta worked on the home farm with her parents. She was told that she couldn't get married until they were done picking corn, they finished on November 10th. She married Stanley Benes on November 25, 1946, at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight. Henrietta and Stanley farmed in the Dwight area and lived on the same place for the last 65 years. She loved raising chickens, ducks and geese. She sold eggs to the hatchery where she won the best eggs. Henrietta won 300 baby chicks but had no place for them so Stanley bought a brooder house from the University for the chicks. She was always busy canning fruit and vegetables from her garden and orchard. Henrietta made her dough on Friday nights and spent Saturdays making bread, rolls and kolaches for her family. She never had a drivers license but somehow always made it to her garden a mile away. Henrietta and Stanley milked cows for years selling the milk and cream. No one ever left her house without taking eggs or baked goodies home with them and the grandchildren always had an ice cream cone to take with them before they went home. She was still making sure that her pies made it to the church soup and pie supper last weekend. With nine children they gathered for every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was an avid ladies husker fan where she enjoyed watching Volleyball and Basketball, she also like watching Wheel of Fortune. Henrietta was a long time member of Assumption Catholic Church where she was on the Altar Society and funeral committee. Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Andrea, one granddaughter, one great grandson, six brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Stanley of Bee; and nine children, Bernard Benes of Bee, NE; Suzanne and husband Dennis Schlake of Cortland, NE; Jane and husband Steve Rezac of Brainard, NE; Joan and husband Dr. Francis Ekstein of Ulysses, NE; Benedict Benes of Brainard, NE; Gerald Benes and wife Julie of Seward, NE; Patrick and wife Ann of Dwight, NE; Roger Benes and wife Janice of Winterset, IA; and Dwayne Benes of Bee, NE; one sister Bernadette Prochaska of Abie, NE. 24 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren 2 step-great grandchildren and 1 foster great grandchild.
