Ileen Martha Walden was born October 27, 1921 on a farm 2 1/2 miles south of Goehner, Nebraska in Seward County, to Carl Christian and Anna Marie (Wussler) Hansen and passed away on January 11, 2013 at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 2 months, 15 days. Ileen was baptized on April 23, 1922 and confirmed on April 5, 1936, both at Friedens United Church of Christ in Goehner. She graduated from Goehner High School in 1939. On November 4, 1942, Ileen was united in marriage to Harvey Edwin "Speck" Walden in St. Louis, Missouri where Speck was stationed in the Army during World War II. To this union three children were born, Barbara, Raymond, and Wesley. After Speck was discharged from the service at the end of WW II, they resided in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska until 1954. At that time they moved to Goehner where Ileen became Postmater in December and held that position until October of 1983, when she retired. Ileen and Speck coached girls' softball in Goehner for many years and were the announcers for the games. Ileen is a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Goehner and an honorary member of Friedens United Church of Christ Womens' Fellowship. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 178 of Beaver Crossing and a past member of Order of Eastern Star in Seward. Ileen is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna Hansen; her husband, Speck Walden; brother, Arild who was lost at sea in 1953; her sister-in-law, Betty Hansen; daughter-in-law, Dale "Tink" Walden; sister-in-law, Shirley (Walden) Ihde and her husband, Dick. Ileen is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kohl of Lincoln; son, Raymond "Butch" Walden of Goehner; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Denise Walden of Goehner; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
