James Elmer Shively was born March 19, 1931 in Carleton, Nebraska to Elmer and Gladys (Voter) Shively and passed away in Seward, Nebraska on October 22, 2009 at the age of 78 years, 7 months 3 days. Jim attended Hebron Elementary School and was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and spent his life in military service retiring after 41 years with the Nebraska National Guard working in Supply Management. He was a past president of EANNG and a member of the Nebraska Military Retiree Council. Jim was united in marriage on February 16, 1951 to Sarah Ellen Bigsby and their marriage was blessed with six children, Jim, Jan, Steve, David, Patrick and Doug. Jim was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church where he served on various church committees. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Gladys Shively; his sister, Harriet Campbell; son, Jim Shively; granddaughter, Mandy Churchill; son-in-law, Roy Churchill; brother-in-law, Darwin Anderson. Jim is survived by his wife, Sarah Shively of Seward; his children and their spouses, Jan and Ralph Niemeyer of Garland, Steve and Toni Shively of Lincoln, David Shively of Maple Grove, MN, Patrick and Barb Shively of Aurora and Doug and Rhonda Shively of Milford; his sisters, Gladys "Mick" Barton of Upland, CA and Barbara Anderson of Upland, CA; grandsons, Michael Shively, Brennan Shively, Keegan Grammer, Kaleb Shively; granddaughters, Celeste Sim, Valarie Shively, Shannon Shively, Rachel Shively,; three great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Jim. |
