Timoney
August 25, 1936 – March 30, 2025
James Theodore Timoney was born on the family farm on August 25, 1936, near Ulysses, Nebraska to Thomas and Ann (Lukassen) Timoney and passed away on March 30, 2025, in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 5 days.
Ted attended District 31 School through the 8th grade and was a Ulysses High School graduate with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Ted worked for the McGowen brothers as a farmhand before enlisting into the United States Army in 1956. He served for six years in Company B 47th Armored Infantry Battalion as a code reader. Ted was stationed in Korea for 18 months, then stationed in California until his discharge from the Army. Ted then began working for White McGowen in Ulysses.
Ted met Carolyn Barghahn at a New Year's Eve party in David City. On April 18, 1964, they were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses, Nebraska and to this union three children were born, Monica, Larry and Kevin. The couple lived on the Timoney family farm. Ted loved farming and being with his family. The couple moved the District 31 school and turned it into their home, moving into it in 1982, where he continued living until his passing. He enjoyed sports, especially Husker basketball and Husker baseball. Ted was also a loyal Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He coached Little League baseball for numerous years and served as president of the ball club in Ulysses. Ted also played on the Ulysses slow-pitch softball team. He served on the Ulysses Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was a member of the Dwight American Legion Post #110.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Timoney; siblings, Lois Semin, Kate Hayek, Helen Vodicka and Mary Plessel.
Survivors cherishing his memory include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Timoney, Ulysses; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Shawn Timoney, Ulysses; daughter, Monica Timoney Crawford; daughter-in-law, Janet Timoney, David City; grandchildren, Trevor and Jared Crawford, Alison (Grant) Snyder, Brandon (Taylor) Timoney, Jackson Timoney, Brittany (Jared) Cech, Erin Timoney; great-grandchildren, Ridge Snyder, Bowen Snyder, Andi Jo Timoney, Ava Marie Cech; sisters, Rita Shipley and Betty Phillips; brother-in-law, Alan Barghahn; numerous nieces and nephews.
