Obituary

Jane Vive Wiles was born on June 11, 1940 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Tracil and Nella (Powell) Power. She grew up in Gibbon, Nebraska. Jane invited Jesus to be her Lord and Savior when she was in third grade, while at the knee of her grandmother. Jane learned her way around the kitchen by helping her mother cook for their farm crew. She graduated from Gibbon High School in 1958 and went to Sioux Falls College and on to Kearney State College where she earned her teaching certificate. She married the love of her life, Ernie Wiles at the Gibbon Baptist Church on August 13, 1961. While Ernie finished college and officer candidate school, Jane learned the teaching ropes, loving her first assignment at a one-room school outside of Hyannis, teaching all eight grades. Ernie and Jane moved to California as Ernie entered the Navy. Their three sons, Scott, Paul and Daniel were all born in California as they moved from base to base on Ernie's deployments and assignments. Jane was able to make any house a home for their growing family and she enjoyed entertaining friends and church family. As Ernie left the Navy and pursued a career in pharmaceutical sales, Jane stood right by his side, always supporting his decisions for what was best for their family. They moved back to Nebraska in 1976, settling in Seward. Jane got right to work settling the family in their new home and at their new church home, Hillcrest Evangelical Free. Jane's passion was always the church and its mission. She was involved teaching Sunday School and VBS, helping with the Sunshine Bus, AWANA, serving on the kitchen committee, and playing an influential role in the design of the church's new kitchen in 2011. Everyone was blessed by God's gift of hospitality expressed through Jane. She wasn't satisfied unless she was serving others and making them feel special. She was famous for her popcorn and homemade pancakes, among other things. Teaching was in her blood and she continued to love her students as a para and substitute teacher most often in the Milford and Bee School Districts. When the grandkids started arriving, she had a new batch of students, teaching them about the joy of having a relationship with Jesus. Her Bible, with worn pages, and full of notes in the margins gives us her words that she would want everyone to hear. With two stars next to it, she wrote, "Life can only have purpose and meaning with Godwithout God, life is in vain." Jane passed to her heavenly home on Monday, February 11, 2013 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 8 months. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, LeRoy and Ron. Jane is survived by her husband, Ernie Wiles, Seward; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Karen Wiles, Paul and Milissa Wiles, Dan and Krisa Wiles, all of Lincoln; grandchildren, Nicholas, Jonathan, Allison, and Zachary Wiles; Katherine and Everett Wiles; Evan, Samantha, Emily Shae, Luke and Landen Wiles, all of Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Royal and Mari Ellen Power, Wichita, KS; sister and brother-in-law, LaBerta and Duane Olson, Gibbon; twin brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Power, Geneva; sisters-in-law, Janice Power, Kearney, Dorothy Power, North Platte; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
