Jay D. Smith was born December 21, 1964 in Seward, Nebraska to Larry and Lois (Strong) Smith and passed away in Overland Park, Kansas on July 15, 2008 at the age of 43 years, 6 months, 25 days. Jay was a 1983 graduate of Seward High School and a 1987 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University where he played football, baseball and was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity. After graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan, Jay worked for Dean Goings State Farm Agency in Seward. Jay went on to graduate from Southeast Community College in 2000. On August 2, 2003, he was united in marriage to Susan Metzger at the Olivecrest Methodist Church in Omaha. In recent years he worked for West Communications in Omaha. Jay moved to Overland Park, Kansas last August and was employed by Sprint, where he was a Global Network Engineer. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Vera and Dale Strong and Earl and Merle Smith. Jay is survived by his Wife, Susan Smith of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Cody of Overland Park, Kansas; stepsons, Nolan & Lee of Overland Park, Kansas; parents, Larry and Lois Smith of Seward, Nebraska; brothers & sister-in-law, Todd & Terry Smith of Eagle River, Alaska, Troy Smith of Seward, Nebraska; sister & brother-in-law, Lisa & Mark Peery of Seward, Nebraska; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve & Kate Metzger of Grand Island, Nebraska, David Metzger of New York; Nieces & Nephews, Katie, Ben & Betsy Smith of Eagle River, Alaska, Alyx, Tatum, Sam & Max Peery of Seward, Nebraska, Reagan Smith of Giltner, Nebraska, Jordan & Kaliegh Metzger of Grand Island, Nebraska; parents-in-law, Joyce & Lyle Metzger of Grand Island, Nebraska; grandmother-in-law, Alberta Meier of West Point, Nebraska; Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
