Obituary

Jean Ellen (Douglas) Magnuson was born August 15, 1933 in Margaretville, New York, the daughter of Rev. Milfred Edward and Harriett Ellen (Hardin) Douglas and passed away on September 10, 2013 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 26 days. Jean was raised in New York state where her father served many churches as a Methodist minister. In January of 1949 Jean moved with her parents to Rawlins, Wyoming where her father would serve as a pastor and Jean graduated from Rawlins High School in 1951. Jean attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in psychology and a near minor in religion. She met her future husband, Gordon Magnuson on February 6, 1952 on a blind date and they were married on May 31, 1955, at Warren Methodist Church in Lincoln, the same day Jean graduated from college. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Troy Douglas and Julie Ann. Jean and Gordon resided several places in their early married life and Jean was employed in many capacities with a variety of companies. In 1970, the family moved to Seward, Nebraska where Jean still resided at the time of her passing. She was an Avon Lady with a country territory for 3 1/2 years after their move to Seward. Jean was a member of the Seward United Methodist where she served as church secretary from September 1, 1974 through December 16, 2003, with over 29 years of dedicated service. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Milfred E. and Harriett E. Douglas and her husband, Perry Gordon Magnuson in 2004. Jean is survived by her loving family ~ son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Rhonda Magnuson, Bruno, Nebraska and daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Dana Stumpf of Pine Township, Indiana; her five grandchildren, Levi Magnuson, Kristian Magnuson, Lydia Magnuson, Konner Magnuson, Matt and Helen Graybill; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Graybill and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Jean.
