IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean D.
Riley-Schultz
October 8, 1946 – July 27, 2023
Jean D. (Lohmeier) Riley-Schultz, 76, Lincoln, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 27, 2023. She was a member of Holy Savior Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Retired Assistant Professor of Practice, School of Accountancy, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; formerly employed at First Commerce Bancshares; Deloitte & Touche; James A. Pett & Associates; Production Credit Association of Lincoln; Pleasant Dale Elementary School. B.S. (1989) and M.P.A (1990), University of Nebraska-Lincoln; graduate of University High School, Lincoln (1963).
Jean was born on October 8, 1946, to Earl and Adeline (Klug) Lohmeier and grew up on a farm near Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. She loved hanging out with her dad, fishing and going to town with him. She attended District 38 Burd School where she skipped the third grade. She graduated 4th in her class from University High School in Lincoln (where she first said the "S" word) in 1963. She married Rex Riley and had two children, Russ and Rebecca.
While working at Pleasant Dale Elementary School, she met her lifelong best friends, Mary, Lana, Linda, Elaine, Dora, and Gene. Also, in the "PDale gang" is her childhood friend, Diane. They went on many trips, partied at Merle's Tavern in Emerald, and made unforgettable memories together. Jean once "busted" people making out in the Christmas tree farm with her sister from another mister, Mary Jennings. She could barely tell the story through the hysterical laughter. This group of friends was solid and meant the world to Jean.
In 1987, Jean met Gerry Schultz at the Pla-Mor Ballroom. They married in 1989 and Jean embraced the role of stepmom to Gerry's children, Kevin and Jenny.
After working for First Commerce Bancshares, Jean landed her dream job of teaching at UNL. She taught accounting at both the Raikes School and School of Accountancy. Jean thoroughly loved teaching and enjoyed each and every one of her students (special shoutout to Oscar, Casey, Brian and Bailey).
After retiring, Jean learned how to play bridge, joining the "Malcolm Ladies" and the "Bridge Club" in Lincoln. She loved playing bridge as often as possible. Jean also enjoyed volunteering at Holy Savior, baking cookies, and traveling. Jean baked thousands of cookies during her lifetime, never going more than a week without baking. When asked why her cookies turned out so much better than everyone else's, she said, "the secret is the flour" (Robin Hood or Gold Medal unbleached). Jean and Gerry went on a mission trip to Poland and went to games at all of the Major League Baseball stadiums in the country. They were also proud season ticketholders of the Lincoln Saltdogs since 2001.
Jean touched everyone she met. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Gerry Schultz; daughter and family, Rebecca (Rich) Buchmann; grandsons, Matt (Megan) Roach and Zach Roach; great-grandsons, Ryder, Eli, Jameson and Bentley, all of Lincoln; step grandchildren/great-grandchildren, Bryce (Mara) Buchmann and Brayden, Jamie (Jacob) Wuestewald, Aspen and Oakley, Brett (Rachel) Buchmann and Maverick; stepson, Kevin (Sarah) Schultz; step grandchildren, Alex, Jarod, Nina Bryant, all of Lincoln; stepdaughter, Jenny (Troy) Davison, Waverly; grandchildren, Kyla (Jake) Stalsberg and Annabella, Lincoln, Kaden and Kamryn Lorenson; step grandchildren, Saraah and Rylan Davison, all of Waverly; brother, John Lohmeier, Seward; sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Wayne Ficke, Lincoln, LuAnn and Pat Yost, Edmond, OK, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard Schultz, Ely, IA, Pam Gould, Cedar Rapids, IA; nieces, nephews, neighbors, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
