Jeffery Trovar McDonald

Jeffery Trovar McDonald was born on January 17, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jefferson McDonald and Mary Yvonne Christopher. He passed away on May 2, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 59 years, 3 months, and 15 days.

Jeff grew up in Detroit, where he attended school and graduated with the Class of 1986 from Harry S. Truman High School. On August 18, 1986, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Cushing (DD-985) in Guam as a Communications Operator. He was honorably discharged on June 9, 1994.

Following his military service, Jeff worked for SunTrust Bank and Bank of America before spending the past 14 years with Wells Fargo Bank. A true jack of all trades, he was never afraid to learn something new and could often be found tackling electrical work, plumbing projects, or remodeling the family home in Malcolm. Jeff especially enjoyed working on vehicles, always adding his own personality and spunk to each one, most recently restoring his beloved red truck.

Jeff expressed his love through cooking, using food to bring comfort, warmth, and joy to those around him. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and spending time fishing, especially catfishing. He was also an avid sports fan who faithfully cheered for the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Michigan Wolverines, and The Nebraska Cornhuskers.

He was also a very proud member of the Roughriders Motorcycle Group and Dwight American Legion Post #110.

Jeff was a special man who saw the good in every person and treated others with kindness, compassion, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Hope Hromas-McDonald of Lincoln; his mother, Mary Yvonne Christopher; his children, Jordan (Anna) McDonald, Jocelyn Layne, Jervon (Kayla) McDonald, Jayric McDonald, Julian McDonald, Derek Saltzman, Jordan Saltzman and Taylor (Kendra) Schildt, and his grandchildren, Malachi Moody and Merrek Saltzman.

He is also survived by his brothers, Derrick (Daisy) Thompson and Jay McDonald; nephew and niece, Derrick and Sharika Thompson; his mother-in-law, Judy Hromas; his sisters-in-law, Janene (Rick) Welniak, Lori (Mick) Porter; cherished nieces and nephews; Julie Kerney; her parents, Mike (Tanya) Kerney; and a host of extended family members and friends.
