Jerome "Jerry" Richard Turek was born on January 9, 1930 in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, the son of John James and Lucy Agnes (Policky) Turek and passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 82 years and 9 days. Jerry attended and graduated from Ulysses High School in the class of 1947. Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army on September 13, 1951, where he served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on June 12, 1953. Jerry worked 30 years in sales as a district manager for Frito-Lay, and a company rep. for Weaver Chip Co. and later for Gourmet Foods, Co. After retiring, he began working for the Seward School District in maintenance. On August 15, 1992, Jerry married Maryann Helms at the Chapel of the Bells in Reno, NV. The couple lived in Dwight until Maryann's passing in 2007. Jerry moved to Lincoln in 2008. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Lucy Turek; his wife, Maryann; and his brothers, Louis and Vernon. Survivors include his children, Gregory and wife Eileen of Bend, OR; Pamela and husband Steve Joekel of Bellevue, NE; Debra and husband Mike Michel of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Erin Stoll and husband Jeremy of Omaha, NE; David Joekel of Lincoln, NE; Stephanie Wenz and husband Scott of Omaha, NE; Mark Joekel of Vestavia Hill, AL; Cassie Donathan and husband Randy of Tampa, FL; Nate Michel and wife Becky of Lincoln, NE; Kayla Michel of Omaha, NE; Cindy Turek of Lincoln, NE; Becca Turek of Eugene, OR; Alex Turek of Bend, OR and Ethan Turek of Bend, OR; great grandchildren, Mason, Iris, Owen, Olivia, William, Eliza; brother, Ray Turek and wife Lois of Susanville, CA; and Patsy L. Turek, Lincoln; step children, Christopher and Shawni Helms and Rebecca Gintonio, all of Omaha; four step grandchildren.
