Obituary

Jerry Glenn Smetter was born on April 27, 1941, in Goehner to Frank Benjamin and Gladys Opal (Huffman) Smetter and passed away on February 5, 2019, in Omaha at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 9 days.

Jerry grew up in the Goehner area and attended country school. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Clark and to this union two sons were born. The couple later divorced in 1973. On September 24, 1976, he married Sandy White at the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church. Jerry worked for Hoerner Waldorf Corporation for eight years. They then moved to Republican City where he worked for the Corps of Engineers while Sandy worked at the Dairy Queen. He also worked at the Alma Co-op for several years as well as the Hastings Box Factory until his retirement in 2008. Jerry enjoyed fishing and watching Husker football. He loved playing cards with his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife and family and was with them as much as possible.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marion Smetter and Terry Smetter; nephew, Doug Smetter; daughter-in-law, Donna Smetter; sister-in-law, Gayle Kunert; brother-in-law, Jim Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Smetter; two sons, Kent Smetter and wife Sandra, Beaver Crossing, Jeff Smetter, Beaver Crossing; five grandchildren, Joseph Smetter and wife Tonya, Ogallala, Audrey Siddiqui and husband Huzaifa, Lincoln, Mindy Slater and husband Ron, Lebanon, IL, Jennifer Koranda and husband Matt, Staplehurst, Ash Wounded Arrow and wife Justine; nine great-grandchildren, sister, Bonnie Litty and husband Stan, Seward; brother-in-law, Gordon White; sister-in-law, Sherri Dean and numerous nieces and newphews. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Jerry.
