Jewell Alice Grasmick was born on April 12, 1929, in Omaha, NE to Paul and Nell (Fay) Holbrook and passed away on April 13, 2018, in Seward at the age of 89 years and 1 day. Jewell grew up in Omaha where she was adopted by Harry H. Hagel after he and Nell were married. She attended and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1947.

On June 29, 1952, Jewell was united in marriage to John Jay Grasmick in Omaha, to this union four children were born, Amy, John, Ann and William (Billy). Jewell was a homemaker most of her life, but later in life she worked at the Nebraska Domestic Crisis Center in Crete. Her quilts were given as gifts, going as far as Brazil and Poland. Jewell was a sports enthusiast and loved watching Nebraska baseball where she was a longtime season ticket holder. She loved watching Family Feud and Jeopardy and her family knew better than to interrupt her during the shows. After John passed away Jewell learned how to play poker and she also played in three bridge clubs. Jewell always wanted to go to Alaska and finally did so in 2015. She was also able to go to Colorado just last week to see her close friends. Jewell was a longtime member of the Seward United Methodist Church where she folded bulletins every week.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Nell Hagel; husband, John (2007); son, William (1999); daughter, Amy Terrell (2011); brothers, Robert and Paul Holbrook; twin sister, Joanne Borchman.
