Joan P. Kennel was born on July 25, 1934, in Scotia, NE. She was adopted by Guy and Agnes (Anderson) Cooper and passed away on September 10, 2014, in Lincoln, NE; at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 16 days. Joan graduated from Seward High School. Joan married Clifton Louis Kennel on September 26, 1954, in Beaver Crossing, NE. Joan volunteered as a Goehner voting poll worker for several years. She was a member of the Seward County Historical Society, the Seward County Genealogical Society, and Flowing Well Grange. She was the past secretary and member of the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church. In 2006, Joan was placed in the Nebraska Secretary of State Poll Worker Hall of Fame. And in 2007, she was honored as the Donor of the Year from the Hospitalized Veterans Association. Joan is survived by sons and spouses: Keith and Cindy Kennel, Springfield, MO., Robert and Debbie Kennel, Cortland, NE. daughters and spouses: Eileen Phillips, El Reno, OK., Patricia and Mark Renz, Elkhorn, NE., a granddaughter raised as a daughter, Christy Kennel, Kansas City, MO. grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her special friend, Bonnie Scott, Lincoln, NE. She was preceded in death by husband: Clifton Kennel, parents: Guy and Agnes (Anderson) Cooper, brother and sister-in-law: Jack and Betty Cooper, brother-in-laws: Loyal Kennel, Alfred Kennel, Merv Kaeding, sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Wilma and Bernie Fisher, niece: Jeanette (Kennel) Yates, son-in-law: Paul "P.D." Ames, and grandson: Darren Ames. Visitation and Family receiving friends 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday September 12, 2014, at Zabka Funeral Home Seward, NE. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday September 13, 2014, at Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church with Pastor Tamara Holtz officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Crossing Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kennel Family for future designation.
