Obituary

John Marvin Giebelman was born on December 28, 1935, in York, NE, to John Bernard and Hattie May (Rurup) Giebelman. He passed away on March 13, 2019, in Lincoln, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 13 days.

John's family moved to Utica before he started grade school. He graduated from Utica High School with the Class of 1953. As a child John enjoyed his dogs and participated in many sports. He was very athletic playing football, basketball and track while in high school. John also participated in rodeos, riding horses and bulls throughout his life. He enjoyed racing cars and was in the band that started up a dance hall in Utica.

On November 20, 1955, John was united in marriage to Dixie Helen Eppenbaugh in Utica. To this union four children were born. The couple lived and worked in Utica, Crete, Seward and Norfolk, NE. It was in Norfolk that they owned the Giebelman Service Station for many years. He was also an officer for the Norfolk Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff's Department before his retirement. John and Dixie were always on the move either at a rodeo, dance, motorcycle racing or camping. He enjoyed music, Country Western being his favorite. He loved being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple are members of the V.F.W. and Eagles in Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by his wife, Dixie, Lincoln; four children, Roxanne Giebelman, Lincoln, Brenda Cool and husband Don, Brigham City, UT, John "Tim" Giebelman, Lincoln, Wesley Giebelman and wife Julie, Evansdale, IA; 10 grandchildren, ReGina, Tamara, Johnnie, Tyson, Hattie, Matt, Anthony, Dustin, Ryan and Nikki; 23 great-grandchildren.
