John H. Novacek, 88, of Dwight died peacefully at Tabitha in Lincoln, Nebraska on Thursday January 27, 2011. John was the oldest son of John Anton and Mary Katherine (Hamsa) Novacek, born on July 15, 1922 in Dwight, Nebraska. He graduated from Assumption High School in May 1939. In September of that year he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and was stationed near Custer, South Dakota in the Black Hills for one year. In November, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was deployed to the Pacific theatre and spent a year on the Island of Guam. He was discharged in February of 1946. On June 14, 1951, he was united in marriage to Laurine Marcella Divis. Nine children were born to this union. John was appointed Postmaster and manager of the Dwight Cooperative Credit Association. In 1958, he moved his young family to Steinauer, Nebraska where he worked in the Bank of Steinauer. In 1965, he moved back to Dwight and formed the John H. Novacek Agency where he specialized in income tax, auctioneering, and sold investments, insurance, and real estate. John was a member of Dwight Assumption Catholic Church and Choir and was a member of Catholic Workmen. John was also a member of Dwight American Legion Post No. 110 for over 50 years, Dwight Volunteer Fire Department, and the Dwight Community Club. John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Novacek; his sister Edith Kudlacek; daughter, Joyce and infant sons, James and John. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Laurine of Dwight; sons and daughters-in-law and their families, David and Kathy Novacek of Seward, Hunter Novacek, Jesse, Emmi and Morgan Prochaska; Don and Liz Novacek of Utica, Mikayla and David Weigle; Clair Novacek of Dwight, Russell, Brendan and Dustin Pond; daughters and sons-in-law and their families, Eloise and Larry Schwartz of Lincoln; Mary Kaye and Chuck Kost of Lincoln, Luke Kost, Alayna Fleshman; Lori and Dana Miller of Gering, Noah Miller; brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis and Cecilia Novacek of Fort Worth TX, Alfred and Yvonne Novacek of Portland, OR; brother-in-law and spouse, Al and Irma Kudlacek of Geneva; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art and Leona Divis of Brainard, Arnold and Ilene Divis of Prague, Florence Parnham of Lincoln, Vera Divis of Beaver Crossing; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with John. |
