John Anthony (Baxa) Osmera, 88, was born January 19, 1924, in Hardin, MT; to John and Mary (Stepanik) Baxa and was later adopted by John and Mary (Liska) Osmera of Brainard, NE; and passed away on July 15, 2012, in David City, NE; at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 26 days. John attended Brainard grade school and high school where he graduated in 1942. He was inducted into the United States Army and served in W.W. II from May 8, 1943, until he was honorably discharged on February 21, 1946. After the Army he went to work in Chicago, Il; and then came back to Omaha, NE; to work. He worked at Swift & Co. John married Emilie Trousil on May 15, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Omaha. 2 children were born to union. They belonged to Assumption Church Omaha and then Assumption Church in Dwight. After working for 17 years at Swift & Co., he got a job at Ryan High School, then worked as a janitor at the Veteran's Administration Hospital for 17 years. He retired when Emilie's health started failing and move to a home in Dwight. He loved to tell stories and always had one ready. He also loved to scoop snow and would be out there before any neighbor's woke up and scooped everyone's sidewalk. He loved to walk. He was a member of the Legion of Mary at Assumption Church. He also belonged to FCSLA fraternal insurance group, the Dwight Community Club and the Dwight American Legion Post #110. He also volunteered as a janitor there. He was a acolyte at Assumption Church in Dwight and did holy hours and prayed the rosary on the weekends. He always signed his cards as "Johnny O". There was a song that went "you're not handsome it's true, but when I look at you- I just 'Oh, Johnny, O Johnny O'!!" As his health failed, he moved in April of 2008 to David Place in David City. He was a very loving grandpa and great grandpa. He was preceded in death by his wife Emilie in 1990, his birth parents: John and Mary Baxa, his adopted parents: John and Mary Osmera, son-in-law: Ed Kouma, brother and sister-in-law: Ed and Ann Osmera, brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank Trousil, John Trousil, Lucille (Mike) Koory, Pauline (Frank) Hain. He is survived by his son: Eugene Osmera of David City, NE; daughter: Darlene Kouma of Seward, NE; formerly of Dwight, granddaughter and husband: Melanie (Kouma) and Joel Wesely of Raymond, NE; 3 great granddaughters: Lillian, Kaitlyn and Gianna Wesely, sisters-in-law: Helen Sedlak of Louisville, NE; and Lucille Trousil of Valparaiso, NE; and several nieces and nephews. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with John. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Zabka Funeral Home, visitation with the family receiving friends will resume from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Jerel Scholl celebrating. Burial will full military honors will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Dwight.
