John James Prochaska was born November 7, 1935 in Brainard, Nebraska to William Frank and Josephine Sophia (Codr) Prochaska and passed away on April 26, 2006 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 70 years, 5 months, 19 days. John was a 1953 graduate of Brainard High School. He served in the National Guard. On August 4, 1956, John was united in marriage to Janet M. Kliment in Touhy, Nebraska. They lived on the home place by Brainard until 1989 when they moved into Dwight. John was a farmer and also owner of Pine Street Inn for 13 years. He was employed at Hughes Brothers Manufacturing in Seward in the wood department for 9 years, retiring on March 31, 2006. John was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 110, both in Dwight; a member of the Knights of Columbus in David City, the Brainard Volunteer Fire Department, and Polka Lovers of Omaha. John served on the Plum Creek Township Board and was a Pioneer Seed dealer for 29 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Josephine Prochaska; his daughters-in-law, Sandra Prochaska and Toni Prochaska; brothers and sister-in-law, Ernest Prochaska and George and Gladys Prochaska.

John is survived by his wife, Janet Prochaska of Dwight; children and their spouses, Mike and Laura Prochaska of Havre, Montana, Colleen and David Baker, Sr. of Fremont, Ron Prochaska and special friend, Deb of Bee, Duane Prochaska and special friend, Gloria of Dwight; John Jr. and Wendy Prochaska of Lincoln; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, William and Martha Prochaska of Brainard; sister-in-law, Leona Prochaska of David City; other relatives and a host of friends.
