John Forrest Slack was born January 31, 1958 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, the son of Sanford John and Ione Betty (Grunden) Slack and passed away on February 5, 2014 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 56 years and 5 days. John attended School in Gothenburg. He was united in marriage to Paula Ann Schneider on December 19, 1975 in Cozad, Nebraska. To this union four children were born, Jeremiah, Amy, Sherri, and Lindsay. In 1985, they moved to Seward where John formed Slack Construction and Door Company. Besides woodworking; John loved hunting, fishing, camping, and time with his grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his father, Sanford Slack in 1985. John is survived by his children and spouses, Jeremiah Slack, Gothenburg, Amy and Scott Rathjen, Seward, Sherri Slack and Rick Craig, Bee, and Lindsay and John Westman, Central City; his mother, Ione B. Jensen, Kearney; his grandchildren, Toby Nordmeyer, Bee, Cortney Rathjen, Seward, Derek Rathjen, Seward, Devyn Rathjen, Seward, Kelsey Bruns, Seward, Porter Slack, Gothenburg, Hayley Slack, Gothenburg, Kiersten Hansen, Central City, Rowan Westman, Central City, Ryan Craig, Bee, and Cadance Craig, Bee; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Don Gaudreault, North Platte, Diane and Bruce Johnson, Eaton, Colorado, Sandy and Neil Hawley, Garden City, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Betty, Mark, Tony, James, Lori, Dustin and Bill; other relatives and friends.
