She was the fifth child of Herbert Arthur and Wilma "Ruth"(Sherwood) Grosor, born on January 27th, 1960 in York, NE. She attended Edison Elementary School and graduated from York High School in 1978. She was baptized as an infant, confirmed at age 14 and attended as a member at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. On March 12, 1983 Joyce was united in marriage with Lonnie Whitmore at Emmanuel. They resided in Seward, NE where they served as foster parents for several years and became members of the St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church. A son, Dustin Lucas, was born to them May 17th, 1986, followed by a daughter, Whitney Jae, born June 6th 1987. Joyce also provided daycare in her home in Seward and was active in the Optimists Club. Following her divorce from Lonnie, Joyce and Whitney moved to Texarkana, AR, with friends where Whitney still resides. Dustin moved to Texarkana later on and now resides in Philadelphia, PA. Joyce enjoyed cooking; cleaning and watching her children grow. Joyce and Dustin had a very close relationship, and she was very proud of the young woman Whitney had become. On Wednesday, October 7th, she had enjoyed her day of shopping for her dress and the rest of her attire for Whitney's upcoming wedding. She always paid great attention to how she looked and wanted to look especially good for Whitney's wedding which will take place on October 17th. Joyce was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and both parents. She is survived by her son, Dustin, of Philadelphia, PA; her daughter, Whitney, and soon to be son-in-law, Steven Eddy, Jr. of Texarkana; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Susan Grosor of Bradshaw, NE; sisters and brothers-in-law Janet ("Tootsie") and Jim Coon of Seward, NE; Karen and Roger Vonfeldt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Kathy and Stan Bruns of Beaver Crossing, NE; a host of nieces and nephews; dear friend Betty Ann Richards with whom she lived in Texarkana; her dog Sheaba and her cat Macey. She was our Baby Sister and we will miss her terribly. To this obituary we add out thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Joyce. |
