Joyce E. Zillig was born in Seward, NE on May 23, 1928, to William and Emma (Tinnappel) Meyer of rural Seward. Joyce was baptized by Rev. Ernest Wiedennmann of Goehner Evangelical Church in October 1928. Joyce attended Sunday school and was confirmed at the Seward Evangelical and Reformed Church. Joyce attended rural grade schools and graduated from Seward High School. She taught school in Seward County for six years and attended two summer sessions at UNL. On June 25, 1950, Joyce was married to Leo D. Zillig at the Seward Evangelical and Reformed Church. They lived on the family farm for 12 years. Three children were born to this union. Joyce taught Sunday school and held various offices in the church. In 1962 Joyce and Leo moved to Webster Groves, MO where Leo attended Eden Seminary for three years after which he was ordained in their home church. They lived in Nebraska where Leo served parishes in Arlington, Tecumseh, Plainview and Franklin before retiring in Seward in 1993. Since 1980 Joyce was a member of GFWC Woman's Club, NE where she held several offices. She answered the phone for the Lied Senior Center Shuttle in Seward when called upon for a number of years. Joyce is survived by son, Paul and wife Janet Zillig, grandsons, Taylor and Adam, granddaughter, Jamie, all of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Linda Zillig of Mason City, IA; and daughter, Marcia and husband Henry Miller, granddaughter, Megan, grandson, Dakota, all of Crofton, NE; sister-in-law, Myrna Zillig of Seward, NE; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma (Tinnappel) Meyer; her husband Leo in February 2008 due to cancer; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leona and Carl Westerhoff, Dorothy and Ray Flowerday, Erma and Ted Flowerday, Mabel and Charles Lyon, Mervin Zillig.
