Kenneth L. Ferguson, 92, of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 30, 2017. He was born October 18, 1924, in Friend, NE, to Robert and Bessie Bartlett Ferguson.
A 1942 graduate of Beaver Crossing High School, Ken volunteered in 1943 to serve in the Army, opting for combat duty in the Second Battalion of Merrill's Marauders during the great counterattack in Burma (43-45). Following his Honorable Discharge from the service, he receivedthe Combat Infantryman's Badge, the American Campaign Medal, theAsiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
After the war, he married Marion Pendell of Seward, NE, had two daughters, Kay and Dianne, and began his professional career, first as clerk in the Lancaster County Register of Deeds Office, next as The Nebraska Farmer's Ad Manager,next as Deputy Registrar of Deeds in the Register of Deeds Office (completing his predecessor's last term), then as Registrar of Deeds, from 1960 to 1984, serving six four-year terms as an elected county official. Before retiring, he worked six more years for the Nebraska Department of Roads as Research Agent.
Survivors: Daughters, Kay and Dianne, sons-in-law, Randy and Liam, granddaughter, Megann. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Virginia Thomsen, Florence Luebbe, Reverend Earl Ferguson, and Mabel Olmsted.
