Lawrence Joseph Lickteig was born December 12, 1939 in Garnett, Kansas to Lawrence Joseph and Rose Pauline (Gellhaus) Lickteig and passed away on February 16, 2007 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 67 years, 2 months, 4 days. Larry was raised on a small farm near Scipio, Kansas. He attended Scipio grade school and was a 1957 graduate of Greeley High School in Greeley, Kansas. Larry joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1957. He served on a number of ships in the 14 years he served. He was a Vietnam veteran serving two tours. After his discharge he worked in his own bakery in Independence, Missouri. After selling the bakery he moved back to the Garnett area and went to work for Warner Manufacturing Company, a garment manufacturer, where he was in charge of purchasing and the shipping department. He worked there for 15 years. At that time Larry, his mother, Rose Lickteig and his daughter, Tracy moved to Bee, Nebraska. Larry worked at Pac-N-Save in Seward for 5 years before beginning employment with High Plains Corporation in York, in the purchasing and warehouse area; Larry retired from there in 2003 and took up residence in Seward, Nebraska. Larry was a life member of VFW Post No. 4755 in Seward and he was also a member of Disabled American Veterans. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Rose Lickteig. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Scott Plautz of Lincoln; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Stephen Becker of Mountain Home, Arkansas; niece, Heather Armstrong of Omaha; nephew, Brad and his wife, Suzanne Becker of Redwood City, California; his aunts, Rosemary Robinson of Gering, Nebraska, Irene Gellhaus and Betty Gellhaus both of Greeley, Kansas, Jessie Lickteig of Cherryvale, Kansas; numerous cousins and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Larry. |
