LaVaughn Elaine (Schweitzer) Detweiler was born March 30, 1927 in Milford, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph Franklin and Grace Marie (Roth) Schweitzer and passed away on January 25, 2015 at her home in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 9 months, 26 days. LaVaughn attended country school northeast of Beaver Crossing and also in Dorchester, Beaver Crossing and Goehner. On June 29, 1952, LaVaughn was united in marriage to Wayne Detweiler in Milford, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Steve, LaRae, Lorie, Tom and Jan. LaVaughn and Wayne lived in Twin Falls, Idaho for 13 years and while there LaVaughn was employed at a retirement home where she enjoyed her time working with the residents. She was a marvelous cook and particularly enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls, and all of her friends and family were thrilled to be the recipients of her baking skills. LaVaughn was also employed as a cook at various cafes and steak house. The couple moved back to Seward in 1990. LaVaughn was a member of Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church in Seward. LaVaughn is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Grace Schweitzer; her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Roth; brother, Robert Schweitzer; son-in-law, Marvin Eifert; grandson, Thomas L. Thomas and brother-in-law, Ervin Nichols. Family cherishing LaVaughn's memory include her husband, Wayne Detweiler; children and spouses, Steve and Jenice Detweiler, Schuyler, Tom and Jeanette Detweiler, Omaha, LaRae Eifert, Lincoln, Lorie Askren, Junction City, KS and Jan Thomas, Sacramento, CA; 10 grandchldren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Zelma Nichols, Beaver Crossing; sister-in-law, Sharon Schweitzer, Phoenix, AZ; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
