Anita Grace LaVerna (Scherer) Reiling was born December 11, 1914 in Utica, Nebraska to Charles and Emelia (Neujahr) Scherer and passed away on June 6, 2010 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 4 months, 26 days. LaVerna was baptized February 26, 1915, confirmed April 1, 1928 and graduated from Rosemond School. On February 24, 1935, she was united in marriage to John Henry Reiling at Marysville Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Janice, Marlene, Roger, Dennis, Donna and Dorothy. They farmed near Marysville and then moved to a farm near Utica in 1944. LaVerna and Henry retired and moved into Utica in December of 1983. LaVerna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Utica and the Utica Senior Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Music was a very important part of her life and her husband's life. LaVerna thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren making music a part of their lives also. She was always fair in her dealings and loved them all the same. She will be missed. LaVerna is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Emelia Scherer; her husband, Henry Reiling in 1989; son, Dennis Reiling, daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Dr. T. L. McKee; son-in-law, Anthony J. Litty, Jr.; grandson, Scott Litty; sisters, Nora Shields, Emelia Reiling, Ellen Volzke, Lillian Lehr; brothers, Carl Scherer, Arnold Scherer, Clarence Scherer; brother-in-law, Bart Hoemann. LaVerna is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Janice and Larry Cradick, Marlene Litty, Donna Semin, all of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Anne Reiling, Golden, CO; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Vera Priess, Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Iolene Scherer, Gibbon, MN; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hoemann, Onamia, MN; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
