Obituary

Laverne Tressa Bader was born on June 12, 1925, in Lincoln to William and Mary (Haufle) Honvlez and passed away on October 2, 2018, in Seward at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 20 days.

Laverne grew up in Denton, Nebraska where she graduated from Denton High School with the Class of 1943. After graduation, she attended business school in Lincoln and worked as a secretary. She held many jobs over her lifetime, including working at the Pentagon as a secretary shortly after it opened. She loved living in Washington, D.C. and spoke of her time there fondly throughout the rest of her life. Laverne moved back to Nebraska after a short while and it was then that she met her future husband Urban Bader at a dance at the Pla Mor Ballroom in Lincoln. Some time after the dance, she moved to San Francisco with her cousin, but her heart longed for Nebraska. She moved home to Nebraska where she met up with Urban again, and they later married on Laverne's birthday, June 12, 1948, in Denton. The couple farmed in the Ulysses area, raising chickens and selling eggs. They had five children between 1949 and 1963. Laverne loved being a mother, a housewife, and a helping hand on the farm. She was a member of the Westside Country Club (coffee club) and always enjoyed taking a meal and a mason jar of coffee out to Urban in the field. She enjoyed traveling to Columbus and Grand Island to the horse races. She and her two daughters even traveled to Europe for a month. She was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society there. Laverne was also a member of the Seward V.F.W. Auxiliary. After Urban passed away in 1985, she moved to Lincoln. In Lincoln, Laverne worked for the Lincoln Journal-Star, spent time at the Senior Citizens Center, and frequented garage sales where she often found dishes to add to her dish collection.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary; husband, Urban in 1985; grandson, Eric Bader in 2001; brothers, Joe and Clarence Honvlez; sister, Dolores Lindhurst.

Laverne is survived by her five children, Coleen M. McCormick, Ulysses, Mark S. Bader and wife Christine, Northfield, MN, Philip L. Bader and wife Cindy, Seward, Gary U. Bader and wife Dolores, Gresham, and Martha J. Nepper and husband Scott, Omaha; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
