Obituary

Levi Alan Dybdal was born February 26, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Jon Alan and Tausha Katri (Broer) Dybdal and passed away in Omaha, Nebraska on September 5, 2016 at the age of 17 years, 6 months, 10 days. Levi was baptized on March 7, 1999 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church by Father Brad Zitek. He received his First Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation, also at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Levi grew up in rural Seward on the family farm. He attended preschool at Blessed Sacrament School in Lincoln, Kindergarten through 4th grade at St. Vincent de Paul School and later Seward Middle School. Currently, Levi was an active member of the Senior Class of Seward High School where he was a dedicated leader and was particularly active in the Speech and Drama Department. Levi was the 2016 recipient of The Wayne Tanderup Award, given for his ability to overcome many personal obstacles. Levi's hobbies were many, he enjoyed 4-H, riding horses and roping. He also liked hunting, fishing, swimming and going to theme parks. Fencing, riding go-carts, playing chess and cooking were all interests that Levi explored. Because of his interest in cooking and fine dining, Levi particularly appreciated his employment at Nate's on the Nine. Jeramie Schoepf, his Godteen parent and close friend, Tristan Snover were the inspiration for Levi's interest in wrestling. He never had a live match, but his desire for one never waivered.

At the age of eight years old, when Levi was diagnosed with cancer, he was forced to grow up too soon and went from being a normal, ornery, sassy kid to reaching a level of maturity that was well beyond his years. He wanted to do everything, he viewed life as a gift, and his faith developed constantly. Levi felt a bond to and had a true spiritual connection to Christ. Levi was a courageous, outgoing and Christ-filled young man who embraced life while dealing with the constraints of the illness he faced. Levi was the type of person who truly made a difference in the lives of others.

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Godparent Group were cornerstones of Levi's life. He was devoted to his Catholic faith which was fueled each summer by Leadership Camp. He was the recipient of the Leadership Camp Trophy, an honor bestowed on him by his fellow campers. Levi recently took a pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland, where he met eye to eye with Pope Francis: the Vicar of Christ.

Family meant everything to Levi. His siblings were his best friends and were his constant support system. Levi's priority was to protect his parents and particularly his mother, Tausha from being distressed because of the worry due to Levi's health issues. He was always concerned about his family.

Levi is preceded in death by his grandfather, Lawrence Martin Dybdal.

Survivors cherishing Levi's memory include his parents, Jon and Tausha Dybdal; his siblings: Wyatt, Lance, Jessica and Erich Dybdal; his grandparents, Marjorie Dybdal, Hartington and Erich and Janet Broer, Lincoln.
