Lola Jaenne Johnnie (Welch) Vrbka was born May 16, 1931 in Utica, Nebraska to Elmer E. Dutch and Lola P. (Carpenter) Welch and passed away at her home in Utica, Nebraska on September 14, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 3 months, 29 days. Johnnie was a 1949 graduate of Utica High School and a 1952 graduate of Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at the Utica Clinic for one-year and then began her career with Seward Memorial Hospital in Seward, Nebraska, where she provided loving, compassionate care as a Registered Nurse for 35 years.
On November 5, 1952, Johnnie was united in marriage to Leo Joseph Vrbka and their marriage was blessed with four children, Gaylene, Jean, Tim , and Daniel.
Johnnie was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She also was active with the cancer support group, I Can Cope.
Preceding Johnnie in death were her parents, Elmer and Lola Welch; her husband, Leo J. Vrbka on September 12, 2007 and her brother, Harold Welch.
Johnnie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gaylene and Greg Skorohod of Lincoln; daughter, Jean Vrbka of Carnation, Washington, son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Roxanne Vrbka of Fort Worth, Texas, son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Amanda Vrbka, also of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Tara Skorohod, Amy McCurdy, Sasha Vrbka, Kimberly Vrbka, Lukas Vrbka; brother, Gary Welch of Leadville, Colorado; other relatives and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Johnnie.
