Lorrien M. Givens was born on December 10, 1933, in David City, Nebraska to George and Sophie (Oldigs) Fricke and passed away on January 27, 2022, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Lorrien was raised on the family farm near Rising City, Nebraska. She married Alvin Joseph Hofpar on October 30, 1950, and to this union four sons were born. They lived in Ulysses until 1969, then later moved to Columbus, Nebraska. While living in Columbus, Lorrien worked at Becton-Dickenson as a needle inspector and Neid's Meats as a meat cutter and wrapper. She also owned and operated D&D Bar. Alvin passed away in December of 1972.
She later married Marten "Marty" Givens on August 7, 2007. Marty and Lorrien lived in Columbus and both worked as Mobile Technicians for Velociti out of Kansas City, Kansas. Their jobs allowed them to travel the country together for several years. Marty passed away in May of 2013. Lorrien then moved to Seward in 2015 to live closer to her sons.
Lorrien enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles, playing dominoes, sewing, reading, cooking, and baking. She organized potlucks and football pools for her friends and neighbors at the Seward Manor Apartments. Lorrien had a very active social life. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Bitse.
Lorrien is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Alvin Hofpar and Marty Givens; son, Michael Hofpar; sisters, Elnora Dutton and Nadine McPherson; brothers, Leonard and Lawrence Fricke.
Survivors cherishing Lorrien's memory include her sons, Daniel and wife, Deb Hofpar, Ulysses, David Hofpar, Seward, Robin and wife, Charissa Hofpar, Valparaiso; grandchildren, Diana McDonald, David City, Michelle Roth, Garden City, KS, Scott and wife, Kari Hofpar, Staplehurst, Cameo and husband, Jason Rogers, Gretna, Ashley and husband, Eric Arneson, Juniata, Lindsey and husband, Eric Knutson, Wayne, Tara and husband, Garrett Rissler, Bellevue, Coleman Hofpar, Valparaiso, Jacey Hofpar, Valparaiso; numerous stepchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Lorrien.
