Obituary


Lowell Allen Nissen was born January 10, 1932 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Nanning and Marie (Cjell) Nissen, and passed away on December 23, 2016 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 13 days. Lowell attended country school in Dane Prairie, Minnesota and was a 1949 graduate of Fergus Falls High School. Lowell received his undergraduate and Master's Degrees in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army for two years before obtaining his PhD from the University of Nebraska.

Lowell was united to Beverly Ann Chloupek on July 31, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. They lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas for over 50 years where Lowell taught at the University of Arkansas. Lowell wrote several books, articles and read papers at International Conferences in Salzburg, Austria and Moscow, Russia. While in Arkansas they were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Fayetteville and Peace Lutheran Church in Prairie Grove. In 2011, Lowell and Beverly made their home in Seward. While in Seward they have attended St. John Lutheran Church.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Nanning and Marie, and a brother, Norman Nissen.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, Seward; his daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Robert Ganous, Macon, Georgia; his three grandchildren, Zachary, Meghann, and Jordan; two great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Helga Nissen, Hawley, Minnesota; his sister and brother-in-law, Larayne and Rev. Richard Radde, Morehead, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
