Obituary

Lucille Hazel (Miers) Cross was born on March 31, 1930, near Seward, Nebraska to Leonard and Hazel (Duffy) Miers and passed away on October 4, 2024, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 4 days.

Lucille graduated from Seward High School in 1947 and was teaching country school, District 12 north of Seward, when she met Norman at the Seward Roller Skating Rink in October of 1947. They were engaged by early December of 1947, and married on May 9, 1948, in the Seward Evangelical United Brethren Church. After a short honeymoon, they made their home north of Beaver Crossing in a farmhouse. Norman continued to work at Christian Service Station and began farming. Lucille taught District 42 School just one mile north of their home. On September 24, 1949, their son, Marvin was born. In March of 1950, the family moved to a farm south of Beaver Crossing. Their daughter, Carolyn arrived on October 29, 1951, and son, Kenneth arrived on July 27, 1955.

Farming had many lean years, droughts, grasshoppers, etc. Marvin followed his dream with a degree in Business. Carolyn graduated with a degree in nursing. Ken followed his dream of farming with his father, and now his son, Shawn. Lucille was a stay-at-home mom (the hardest job ever) and a full partner in farming. She participated in the Homemaker's club, gardening, farmers market, pottery and sewing for contest at Grange. Lucille was a professional cake decorator, selling baked items to stores, and made stained glass for the church and their home. She was active in the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church for 70 years and taught Sunday school for 52 years. Lucille worked later in life in York, Nebraska. They were married for 67 years before Norman's death.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Cross; parents, Leonard and Hazel Miers; sister, Mabel Miers; brothers, Dale (Millie) Miers, Willard (Wanda) Miers and Dick (Della) Miers; sister-in-law, Geraldine (Clarence) Sonday.
