Mabel Marie (Zillig) Lyon was born October 27, 1914 on the family farm between Seward and Garland, the third of seven children born to William and Nellie (Francies) Zillig. She passed away in Seward, Nebraska on May 6, 2009 at the age of 94 years, 6 months, 10 days. Mabel attended rural grade school at District No. 32 and was a 1932 graduate of Seward High School. She taught school for a few years northeast of Seward. On December 25, 1935, Mabel was united in marriage to Charles Marshall Lyon at her parent's farm and their marriage was blessed with three children, Karen, Roger and Rod. The couple was engaged in farming east of Seward and retired in 1976. Charles passed away in 1991 and Mabel remained on the farm until moving into Seward to reside at Heartland Park Independent Living.
Mabel was a member of The United Methodist Church in Seward, Extension Club, card club and Grange.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Lyon; her parents, William and Nellie Zillig; an infant brother, Clifford; brothers, Rev. Leo Zillig and Mervin Zillig; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and Carl Westerhoff and Dorothy and Ray Flowerday; brother-in-law, Ted Flowerday.
Mabel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bernie Sasek of Tucson, AZ; her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Fran Lyon and Rev. Rod and Ann Lyon, all of Seward; eight grandchildren and spouses, Bill Sasek, Gregg and LeAnn Sasek, Tari and Dean Stutz, Mark and Monica Lyon, Meagan and Ben Anderson, Tamie Lyon, Alyson Lyon, Kevin Lyon; 11 great-grandchildren, Charlotte Sasek, Hannah Sasek, Micah Stutz, Matthew Stutz, A.J. Stutz, Ian Lyon, Charleigh Lyon, Madison Stenson, Jackson Anderson, Elijah Lyon, Malachi Lyon; her sister, Erma Flowerday of Seward; sisters-in-law, Joyce Zillig, Myrna Zillig, Carol Lyon, all of Seward; nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Mabel.
