Obituary

Marjorie G. (Larson) Kennedy, 77, left this world for the next on October 30, 2021, in Lincoln, Nebraska after a short illness. Margie was born on June 5, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut, the 2 nd of four daughters of Dr. Robert and Fern Larson.

Moving around the Midwest until 1957, the family settled in Lincoln where Marge's father was named the first chair of the Actuarial Science program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A 1962 graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School, Margie completed her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Nebraska in 1966.

She married Bruce Kennedy of Lincoln in November 1965; they were preparing to celebrate their 56 th anniversary when she passed. Marge taught French and English at Mead High School after graduation, then switched careers to insurance accounting at Lincoln Liberty Life, followed by Security Mutual Life, retiring in 2004. Margie was so much more than her career. A loving wife, incredible mother, loving sister, spoiling grandma, and skilled gardener. She made friends with everyone she met. Bruce and Marge moved to their "place" south of Malcolm in 1972, and in the next 49 years, turned it into a refuge of happiness and joy. Generations of children came out to the Kennedys for horseback riding, cookouts, fishing and fireworks and their parents came for good conversation and friendship.

Marge was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Malcolm, teaching Wednesday School and Vacation Bible School to innumerable children and serving in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. For over 45 years, she dedicated her time and energy to various conservation organizations, serving several times in leadership roles along with Bruce for Wachiska Audubon and the Nebraska Wildlife Federation, among others. She was also active with Bruce in many classic car clubs. Marge never lost the thrill of living. She supported all of the Huskers sports teams, but grew especially passionate about the baseball team after her retirement. She and Bruce enjoyed attending home games as often as they could. Bruce and Marge traveled by car all over, showing their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all the parts of the country they loved when growing up, and venturing to new destinations.

Margie is survived by her loving husband, Bruce; son, Joel Kennedy of Meridian, ID, daughter, Kelly Ogren of Omaha, NE, son, Ronald Kennedy of Lincoln, NE and stepson, Michael Humann of Firth, NE. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with three sisters.
