Marie Therese (Prochnow) Bader was born January 29, 1920, west of Seward, Nebraska the daughter of Oscar Robert and Elizabeth Emma Lisette (Ahlschwede) Prochnow and passed away on April 4, 2013, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 2 months, 6 days. Marie was baptized on February 22, 1920, and confirmed on May 20, 1934, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. She attended St. John Lutheran School through the 8th grade and was a 1938, graduate of Seward High School. Following her graduation she was a school teacher west of Seward for four years from 1938 to 1942. On October 12, 1940, Marie was united in marriage to Alois Vincent Bader in Grand Island, Nebraska. They were the parents of one daughter, Karol Kay Bader. Marie and Alois lived all of their married life in Seward County. Marie was very active in the farming, cattle and housing development operations as a business woman. Marie was a grandmother to her nieces and nephews, a great cook, and enjoyed taking pictures and bowling. Marie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and LWML. Other memberships included Seward Woman's Club, GSE Extension Club, card clubs and Marie was very involved as a Superintendent at the Seward County Fair for many years. Marie and Alois were benefactors for Memorial Health Care Systems Foundation, Seward Memorial Library, the City of Seward swimming pool, ballfields, Karol Kay Park and Concordia University. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Alois Bader in 2000; daughter, Karol Kay Bader in 1947, her parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Prochnow; infant sister, Wilma Prochnow; sister, Norma Prochnow; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Esther Prochnow; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Iven Fritz; brother-in-law, Wilbur Suhr; nephew, Allen Fritz, great-nephew, Eric Bader. Marie is survived by her sister, Dorothy Suhr of Seward; sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Barbara Bader of Concordia, KS, Nellie McMahon of Giltner and LaVerne Bader of Lincoln. Marie was able to stay in her home with the help of her nephew and wife, Philip and Cindy Bader, Seward and niece, Sharon Luebbe of Milford, and many other family and friends. Additional survivors include nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and a host of friends.
