Mark Werner

Mark Alan Werner was born on January 2, 1959, in Washington, Kansas to Vern “Pete” and EdNida (Cook) Werner and passed away on August 26, 2026, in Fremont, Nebraska at the age of 67.

Mark moved to Ulysses, Nebraska in 1970, and resided around Thayer during his high school years. He graduated from Centennial High School with the class of 1977. Mark started employment with Fehlhafer’s Inc. right out of high school. He then worked for a rancher for a few years out in western Nebraska, where he took up bareback bronc riding. Mark enjoyed participating in the wild horse race at the Burwell Rodeo.

He was united in marriage to Karen Bauer in 1988. She brought one daughter, Tonya, to the relationship. To this union one daughter, Megan, was born. They were later divorced.

Mark was a welder at Tenneco, formerly Walker Manufacturing, for over 37 years. He enjoyed hunting raccoons and coyotes with his brother and friend, Tim. During Muzzleloader deer season he enjoyed sitting in the trees. Mark could be found trapping different animals in the winters and summers on a riverbank when the girls were little, teaching them to “be quiet,” so the fish would bite. Mark loved going to gun shows and passed his love of guns onto his grandson.

For many years Mark was the stock trailer driver for Megan as they traveled all over to different livestock shows. He was always fixing fences or building new equipment to help with the animals she talked him into letting her get.

After retirement, Mark could be spotted driving around the countryside or having a cold drink with friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents on both sides; Nida’s second husband, James “Baldy” Rerucha; sister, Amy Werner; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Beryl Bauer; brother-in-law, Steve Bauer and extended family members.

Survivors cherishing his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Megan (Matt) Giesselmann; grandchildren, Brigham, Gracie, Robert and Hailey, all of Scribner; brother, Dwight and Denice Werner, Sidney, NE, brother, Aaron and Christina Werner, Joplin, MO; nieces, Courtney (Marshall) Steininger, Sidney; Randi (Andrew) Gould, Princeton, IL and Bobbi Potter, York with more extended family
