Marvin Clair Pollock was born June 3, 1923 on his parent's farm southwest of Utica, Nebraska in York County; he was the son of Robert "Ralph" and Lulu Viola (Roden) Pollock. Marvin passed away on January 15, 2011 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 12 days. Marvin was baptized and confirmed on February 9, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Utica. Marvin attended grade school at District 33 southwest of Utica and was a 1941 graduate of Utica High School. Marvin's early employment was for John Deere dealer, John Hanson, in Utica before joining the service in 1943. Marvin served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater, being wounded and receiving the Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster. Upon his return from the service, Marvin was united in marriage to Lorene Maier in 1946 in Staplehurst, Nebraska. He then attended Milford Trade School learning carpentry. He worked in Ft. Dodge, IA, came back to Seward and helped build and manage the East Hill Motel. Marvin also worked for Dave Tuma, Hughes Brothers, and Seward Cooperative. Marvin was a custodian at St. John Lutheran Church and School and was the manager of the Seward V.F.W. Club. In 1962, Marvin ran for sheriff, was elected, and served five terms as the Seward County Sheriff from 1963 to 1983. For over 53 years Marvin has been a member of the Seward Volunteer Fire Department. He was a life member of Seward VFW Post No. 4755, Utica American Legion Post No. 49, and Disabled American Veterans-Lincoln Chapter and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Marvin enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, attending Husker Football games and especially spending time with his grand children. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lulu Pollock; by his two daughters, Lynnette Pollock and Kay Brhel; his brothers Norman and Harold Pollock; his sister-in-law, Irene Pollock; brother-in-law, Wayne Luethje; a great grandson, Avery Brhel and the mother of his children, Lorene Pollock. Marvin is survived by his children and spouses, Connie and Raymond Rezabek, of Dorchester, Robert and Cristina Pollock of Owasso, OK, Les Brhel of Goehner and Annette and Dave Wood of Seward; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his sister, Lucille Luethje of Holdrege; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis Pollock, Robert and LaRue Pollock and Luella Pollock all of Utica; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
