Mary Helen (McGrew) Bloom was born December 27, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska and passed away on January 12, 2009 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 16 days. Mary's parents, Jessie Carl and Mary Helen (Wheeler) McGrew lived in Seward where she was raised with her brother, Don McGrew. Mary was a 1948 graduate of Seward High School. She attended Mary Lanning School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse. Her first job was with Dr. Will Kamprath at Utica. She later served as an R.N. for many years at Seward Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Mary was united in marriage to Donald Bloom and their marriage was blessed with one son, Rodney "Jay" Bloom. Mary was the Blood Mobile Coordinator for many years, starting in 1976. She was also a member of Seward V.F.W. Post No. 4755 Auxiliary and the Seward Country Club. She attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seward. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary McGrew; her husband, Donald E. Bloom and her brother, Don McGrew. Mary is survived by her son, Jay Bloom of Seward; sister-in-law, Helen McGrew, Seward; three nieces, Dianna Anderson, Penni Arbach, Deb Herold; two nephews, Dan McGrew and Mark Rinehart and a host of friends.
