IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maryanne F.
Hubbard Workman
August 3, 1934 – July 21, 2025
Maryanne Frances (Wright) Hubbard Workman, 90, of Seward, passed away on July 21, 2025, in Seward. Maryanne was born in York, Nebraska to Earle Wright, Jr. and Ardith (Wallingford) Wright on August 3, 1934. She was the oldest of 10 children.
In 1950, Maryanne married Frank Sanders, Jr., in Seward. They had 2 children together. Frank passed away in 1968, at which time Maryanne attended nursing school in Lincoln to better support her family. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in January of 1970. Throughout her nursing career, she worked at Seward Memorial Hospital as well as in the clinic for Dr. Pitsch and Dr. Jacobs. In addition to her own children, Maryanne raised her two young brothers, Sam Jones and Allen Dollarhide. In 1969, Maryanne married Gerald Davenport in Seward. They were married until his passing in 1976. In 1979, Maryanne was wed to her beloved Clarence Hubbard at home in Seward. Together, they ran Dale's Café in Seward. Shortly after their 10th wedding anniversary in 1989, Clarence unexpectedly passed away. In 1992, Maryanne married a longtime friend, Robert "Jack" Workman, in Seward. Jack was also a recent widower, and they enjoyed a shared companionship until his passing in 2010.
Maryanne retired in 1999, which was the same year she broke her arm while rollerblading, of all things! Maryanne was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church and in earlier years, the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, long walks, a good cup of coffee with a girlfriend, the History Channel, Estee Lauder White Linen perfume, and Bridge Mix candy. Every holiday gathering at her house was special. She made the best Christmas cookies and banana Jello salad, decorated beautifully, and always had to be reminded by her family to "sit down and eat!", as she was too busy making sure her family had everything they needed. Her gifts were always meticulously wrapped and finished off with a ribbon curled on the edge of scissors. Her granddaughters fondly remember spending a week at her house during the summers; she would take them swimming, to the library, the Rivoli Theatre, Fashions by Barb, and to R.O.'s for dinner. Later in life, Maryanne was thrilled to become a great-grandmother and was affectionally nicknamed "Great Mary". She adored their visits, drawings, giggles, and even their antics.
Maryanne is survived by her daughter, Diane (Dan) Post of Lincoln; granddaughters, Melissa (Jason) Smith of Lincoln, Gloria (Adam) Olson of Fairmont; great-grandchildren, Emersyn Smith and Henry Olson; sister, Sandra (Jeff) Marlette of Rapid City, SD; brother, Dirk (Heidi) Wright of Elizabethtown, KY; sister-in-law, Sharon Wright of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Bob (Linda) Vrbsky of Kearney, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by family members who were not part of her life in recent years and who have chosen not to be listed in her obituary. Although her heart was broken by the parting, her love for these family members remained unconditional.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, John Wright, Teddy Wright, Earle "Butch" Wright, Jim Jones, Tommy Jones, Sam Jones, and Allen Dollarhide.
Maryanne is also survived by her friends and long-time neighbors, Pat and Shirley Higgins. The Higgins family went above and beyond in helping Maryanne during the final years of her living at home. Bringing in her mail, scooping snow, fixing an appliance, and doing yardwork are just a few examples of the many ways in which they were of assistance. She was grateful and so are we. Maryanne's family would like to thank the amazing caregivers at Ridgewood Rehab & Care Center, as well as Lexi with Tabitha Hospice. You all worked hard to ensure that her last days were as comfortable and peaceful as possible. Maryanne's family will miss her immensely; however, we are grateful knowing that her difficulties on Earth are no longer, and that she has been reunited with her loved ones that have passed before her.
