Maxine Lorene (Schaefer) Folkerts was born June 11, 1934 in Seward, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Luella (Hering) Schaefer and passed away on October 22, 2012 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 4 months, 11 days. Maxine was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. She attended Zion Lutheran School in Garland and then worked as a maid. Maxine was united in marriage to Herbert John Folkerts on June 7, 1952 at Marysville, Kansas. Their marriage was blessed with five children. They lived in Columbus, David City and Garland before moving to Seward. Maxine was employed at Dale's Steak House and was a waitress at The Corner Café for 10 years. Maxine also was a merchandiser for Ambassador Cards. Maxine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with her grandchildren; she also enjoyed traveling, canning and photography. Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, William and Luella Schaefer; her granddaughter, Lisa Ann Folkerts; and son-in-law, Eugene Wiemer; Maxine is survived by her husband, Herb Folkerts, Seward; children, Ken and Ellen Folkerts, Decatur, IN, Randy and Lynn Folkerts, Seward, Dennis and MaryEllen Folkerts, Red Rock, TX, Sharon Wiemer, York and special friend, Tom Schaffran, Seward, Mike Folkerts and special friend, Michelle Scanlon, Cedar Creek, TX; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Charles Haase, Seward, Shirley and Don Wren, Seward; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
