Maxine O. Schmieding was born on March 12, 1921, in Seward, NE; to Eugene and Babe (Knobbs) Hackworth and passed away on October 26, 2013, in Seward, NE; at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 14 days. Maxine grew up in Seward where she attended school. She married Richard G. Schmieding on March 15, 1952, at St. John Lutheran Church. She waitressed at Buchanan Restaurant for 7 years and then she and Dick purchased the restaurant for one year before moving to California in 1960. Maxine worked at Grossmont Union High School District in El Cajon as a Program Clerk. She retired in 1983. Maxine was a huge Barbie collector, Maxine and Dick would attend Barbie conventions all over the country. They enjoyed traveling to Europe to see friends and also all over the United States. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lee and husband Anthony of El Cajon, CA; brother, J.W. Bud Hackworth and wife Audrey of Seward, NE; three grandsons, Scott Lee and wife Tula, Mark Lee and Troy Lee and wife Linda. 2 great grandsons, special friends, Georgia Hackworth, Harold and Lola Radford all of Seward, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard G. Schmieding on February 6, 2001, and a granddaughter Mischelle Carr in 1981. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church. Memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Seward Cemetery with Pastor Arthur Schauer officiating.
