Michael Alan Peery was born November 26, 1945 in Superior, Nebraska to Lawrence and Genevieve A. (Hensley) Peery and passed away at his farm home near Seward, Nebraska on March 18, 2011 at the age of 65 years, 3 months, 22 days. Mike moved to the Seward area in 1960 and was a 1964 graduate of Seward High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served during the Vietnam War in A Company, 9th Engineering Battalion and attained the rank of E-6 Sergeant. On June 18, 1966, Mike was united in marriage to Janice Marie Spahr at Ulysses, Nebraska. Mike started his career with farmers cooperatives at the Tamora Cooperative in Tamora, Nebraska and spent most of his years as a grain merchandiser. He retired with 45 years of dedicated employment. Mike was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward and was a member of Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. Other memberships included Holmes American Legion Post No. 178 in Beaver Crossing, a life member and Quartermaster of VFW Post No. 4755 in Seward, the Seward High School Alumni Association and he was a former member of both the Tamora and Goehner Volunteer Fire Departments. Mike enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing poker and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mike is preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Peery; his mother, Genevieve Peery Hodde; father, Lawrence "Bud" Peery; brother, David Peery; sister, Robin Carel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Berniece Spahr.
Family and friends surviving to cherish Mike's memory are his wife, Janice Peery of Seward; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Lisa Peery and Chad and Beth Peery, all of Seward; eight grandchildren, Alyxis, Tatum, Sam and Max Peery; Shea, Camden, Michael and Kyle Peery; his sister, Dixie Horn of Lincoln and special friend, Larry Barry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Val Peery of Denton, Carl and Judy Peery of Lincoln; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger and Betty Spahr, Ogallala, Jim and Kathy Spahr, Seward; sister-in-law and husband, Linda and Steve Smith of Seward; nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends, Tom and Terry Ramsey, Nevada, MO and Cinda Falls, North Platte; and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Mike.
