Mildred Lois (Eberspacher) Matzke was born November 7, 1918 in rural Seward County, Nebraska to George Louis and Minnie (Spahr) Eberspacher and passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Seward, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 3 months, 5 days. She shared a common birthday with Evangelist Billy Graham. Mildred was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Methodist Church near her home. She attended Country School District No. 58 (Star School) and was a 1936 graduate of Milford High School. She worked as a housekeeper for Robert T. Cattle, Sr. and Mercedes and at Gass Furniture Store in Seward prior to her marriage. On January 20, 1946, Mildred was united in marriage to Harlow A. Matzke at her parents home. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Holly and Robert.
Mildred served on the J precinct election board and was the unofficial mayor of Ruby, Nebraska; she was also the caretaker of the Ruby Town Hall for many years. She developed a slide presentation of Ruby History and was instrumental in the 1983 Centennial Celebration. Mildred was a member of the Seward United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife and mother who took her wedding vows seriously. She was Harlows caregiver for many years. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. She enjoyed farm life and was a member of the Farmers Union, United Methodist Women and J Jolly Janes Extension Club.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Eberspacher and her husband, Harlow in December of 2008.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Holly Matzke, Seward; son, Robert Matzke, Seward; and her sister, Lucille Brinkmeyer of Mission Hills, KS; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Mildred.
