Mildred Charlotte (Martin) Steffens was born September 28, 1914 in Gresham, Nebraska to Guy A. and Laura B. (Curtis) Martin and passed away at her home in Seward, Nebraska on January 28, 2014 at the age of 99 years and 4 months. Mildred attended school in Polk County grades 1 through 5 and then moved to Seward County with her family and was a graduate of Seward High School. She attended York College for two years. Mildred was united in marriage to Carl Gordon Steffens on May 14, 1944 in Seward and their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Sharyl, Trudy and Bonnie. Mildred was active in the life of the church and enjoyed many church groups, including WSCS, Bible Study, Ladies Aid and LWML. She was a former member of the EUB Church; in the late 1960's she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton and later joined St. John Lutheran Church after her move to Seward in 1998. Mildred travelled extensively, and also enjoyed mission trips to Madagascar, Arizona, Florida and Texas. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon Steffens in 1992; her daughter, Bonnie Premo in 2003; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Ray Clinkenbeard, Fern and S.G. Mills, Berdena and Leroy Hafer, Earl Walker; and brother Wayne Martin. Survivors cherishing Mildred's memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharyl and Chuck Heiken, Des Moines, IA, Trudy and Bob Foster, Omaha, NE, Mike Premo, Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Kristin Heiken, Steffen Foster, Tyler Foster, Austin Premo, Nathan Premo, Taylor Premo and a host of friends.
