Nancy K. Boon, was born April 1, 1938 in Hastings, Nebraska, the daughter of Dr. J.A. and Jean (Asa) McMillan and passed away on October 19, 2009 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 71 years, 6 months, 18 days. Nancy graduated from Hastings High School in 1956. She attended Knox College in Galesburg, IL and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1959. Nancy was united in marriage to Alan W. Boon on August 22, 1958 in Hastings, Nebraska. She taught school for six years allowing her husband to complete his DDS. She was a devoted wife and mother to their three children, Douglas, Christine and Stephen. They moved to Seward in 1965 where they continue to make their home. Nancy was a substitute teacher for Seward Public Schools and served as a secretary at Nebraska Wesleyan University for 10 years and until her retirement worked at the Seward Dental Clinic. Nancy loved music; she played piano, organ, string bass and sang in and directed many choirs, symphonies, and music groups. She did extensive genealogic research of both sides of the family. For 19 years, Nancy served as treasurer of the Seward Community Scholarship Board; she was a Scout and 4-H leader and a member of the Seward United Methodist Church. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. J.A. and Jean McMillan; a brother, John McMillan and Alan's parents, Charles and Wilma Boon. Nancy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Alan Boon of Seward; son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Douglas and Jennifer Boon of Grand Island, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Tom Tuft of St. Paul, MN, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Nicole Boon of Cortland, NE; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. James and Connie McMillan of Westover, MD; nine grandchildren, Erin, James, Nathan, Christopher, Michaela, Riley, Alexandria, Matthea and Nicholas and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Nancy. |
